Advent of Code is an annual event that challenges participants to solve Christmas-themed programming puzzles:

You might have seen some developers on YouTube talk about this. I haven't done it for the last 2 years. But the ones i have done were a good challenge and a nice way to pickup a new language with an excuse to do something with it!

I personally will probably just stick to JS this year, but undecided.

Are you giving it a crack?
Have you done it before?
What languages have you used / are you using this year?

Can't say I've ever heard of it before. Looks fun though.

Would you say the problems are programming heavy or problem solving heavy or a mix of both? I'm currently trying to teach my GF some coding as she accidentally expressed interest in learning how to code when watching me working on some projects (she definitely regrets this now :ROFLMAO:), I've started her on Python as it's what I learn first and I find it a really good beginner-friendly language and she loves Christmas so this looks like a fun opportunity.

If it's a bit hard for beginners then I can use it as an excuse to refresh my Python. It's amazing, you realize how much you've forgotten when you try teach someone else.

They start off pretty simple and progressively get harder closer to Christmas. Definitely would be stuff in there for her to really think about! and i would say they are more problem solving heavy.

here is last years questions: https://adventofcode.com/2023
Have a look in there to get a good idea of what to expect :) Definitely recommend doing it with her!

I'm currently trying to convince my gf to learn to code, she just doesn't know what she'd use it for :ROFLMAO: but regardless of using it for anything, it is great to learn for a different approach to thinking about problems!
